Temposonics Announces a Field Serviceable Position Sensor for Off-Highway Machinery in Extreme Environments

Temposonics, the pioneer of magnetostrictive technology and a global manufacturer of non-contact linear position sensors, today announced the launch of the MH-Series XTERNAL MOUNT, a new magnetostrictive sensor for use in hydraulic cylinders where having the ability to service the electronics without opening the cylinder is a priority. 

 

 

Featuring a revolutionary dual-housing design, the sensor separates the sensing element, mounted inside the cylinder, from the externally mounted electronic module. This configuration enables quick replacement of the electronics by removing a single screw and disconnecting an internal cable, ensuring seamless, ready-to-use functionality without additional calibration or reprogramming.

The resulting product allows for field service of the electronics in a compact package.“

The new field serviceable sensor is available with a full set of options for off-highway machine integrators and cylinder manufacturers. Outputs include voltage, current, and CANbus (J1939 and CANopen). The pipe and sensing element that is mounted inside the cylinder is available with 5 mm OD pipe up to 1000 mm and 7 mm OD pipe up to 2500 mm. Like all mobile hydraulic sensors from Temposonics, the XTERNAL MOUNT works with a variety of standard off-the-shelf magnets. The electronic module features an integral Deutsch style connector.
